Angolan Ambassador signs book of condolences following the death of Pope Francis
The Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Hungary, José Filipe, who is presently completing his term in the country, signed the book of condolences this Wednesday, 23 April, at the Apostolic Nunciature in Budapest, as a gesture of respect and solidarity following the death of Pope Francis, which occurred on Monday, 21 April, in the Vatican, due to illness.
During the act, on behalf of the State and People of Angola, the Head of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission expressed the most heartfelt and profound condolences for the irreparable loss of the first Latin American and Jesuit Pontiff in the history of the Catholic Church.
In the message left in the book of condolences, José Filipe highlighted Pope Francis’s legacy as “a tireless defender of the poor, of human dignity, of social justice, and of peace,” further emphasising that “to the world, Pope Francis will always be remembered as the priest who proclaimed that the Catholic Church, in its universal dimension, must be for everyone, everyone, everyone!”.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, of Argentine nationality, was the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church, serving as Bishop of Rome and Sovereign of the Vatican City State from 13 March 2013 until his death on 21 April 2025, and was widely recognised for his closeness to the faithful and for reshaping the role of the Church in the modern world.
